Warp Engine

Description

The shape of the warp-bubble is inversely related to the shape of the corresponding warp engine. A spherical engine will generate a spherical bubble, and an oval engine will generate an oval bubble.

One set of scalar beams intersect at the center of the warp engine. The scalar field passes through a shell of dark matter, creating a bubble of dark energy. The field warps space-time relative “up”, because of dark matter and energy’s repulsion effect. This negates all physical effects of movement because the ship is technically still while the warp bubble (containing the ship) moves. Tachyons are then emitted through the rear of the field, causing the ship to be propelled to millions of times the speed to light, approximately 100 ly/h (light-years per hour). The repulsive bubble also serves to partially protect the ship, as it can repel nearly anything smaller than a grapefruit. Anything significantly larger (or denser) would be able to penetrate the bubble and cause the ship to spontaneously disintegrate. Thus, each and every warp-capable ship is equipped with an incredibly powerful yet short-range tachyon sensor suite, in order to detect anything too large for the shield to block. This is aided by three Waypoint sensor stations spread throughout human space, which serve to help ships plan travel routes which are currently and historically free of any major hazards.

Quite interesting schematic, actually... While the warp tech greatly exceeds all of our current understanding, it is the only even remotely realistic method of FTL travel... Apart from wormholes, perhepas.

Hmm... Is the ship able to leave the bubble whenever necessary, or steer the bubble while travelling at c+ speeds?
